The only way the start to this road trip could've been any worse is if the Brewers had lost their luggage.

Yovani Gallardo's history of struggles against the Cardinals continued tonight, as he allowed two runs in the second and then melted down in the third as the Cardinals sent 12 men to the plate and scored eight runs to remove all doubt from this contest. All told Gallardo pitched just two innings, allowing eight runs on eight hits and two walks. He struck out three in the 68 pitch outing.

The Brewers did score first for the first time in nine games tonight, plating a first inning run on an Aramis Ramirez RBI single. Unfortunately, that's all they scored tonight. Ramirez was the only Brewer with multiple hits in the game as Jake Westbrook allowed just one run over seven innings.

Gallardo's short outing meant a lot of work for the back end of the Brewer bullpen. Mike McClendon pitched three innings tonight, Manny Parra worked two perfect innings and Tim Dillard threw the eighth.

These two teams will meet again tomorrow in an awfully early Saturday start, with Marco Estrada taking on Kyle Lohse at 12:05. The game will be televised regionally on Fox.
