At Least No One Got Hurt, Brewers Lose to Diamondbacks 14-3

W: Joe Saunders

L: Shaun Marcum

S: Trevor Cahill

HR: Corey Hart

Spring training is finally over and, for the Brewers, it ended on a sour note as they gave up two touchdowns and only managed a field goal in their 14-3 loss to the Diamondbacks.

Shaun Marcum, making his second start of the spring, threw 78 pitches in 4.1 innings. He looked decent in his final tune-up outing with his fastball velocity between 87-89 mph. The relief combo of of Manny Parra and Tim Dillard struggled, especially Parra who allowed five runs on four hits while walking two without recording an out. Marco Estrada pitched a clean inning striking out two. John Axford gave up a double and single to the first two batters he faced but then settled down and struck out the side around a walk.

The offense was held relatively quiet scoring all three runs in the fourth inning; briefly tying the D'Backs who went ahead with three of their own in the third. Ryan Braun hit a double off the center field wall and scored on a single by Aramis Ramirez. Corey Hart then hit a 2-Run Home Run and that was it for the Brewers offense.

Defensively Mat Gamel looked good at first base and made a great catch on a foul ball avoiding what could have been a potentially dangerous situation along the dugout rail and the oncoming Jonathan Lucroy.

Is everyone else looking forward to Friday afternoon as much as I am? Spring Training is over and Opening Day is finally almost upon us!
