As seen on FS Wisconsin:
We didn't get to hear this question:
Not very good. We had chances the first two innings and let him off the hook, and he got confident and started making some pitches.
Is he still confident in his ability to win with this personnel?
I'm still ok with what we have. As a team we cannot get it going. We get runners in scoring position and we're not taking the at bats I know we can do. I asked Mike (Vassallo, presumably) I think we were 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position and we didn't get it until the ninth inning with Corey (Hart, who had an RBI single). You need to get it early. When you get chances early you need to get to the starter and all of a sudden that confidence that he has isn't there anymore and then you've got a chance to get a bunch of runs off of him. But we need to come out early and we need to get some points off some guys and see what happens after that. I know what happens: They're different pitchers. When you get to them early they're different pitchers.
On Cesar Izturis' blown squeeze bunt:
Yeah, he must have caught it off the end of the bat or something but he killed it instead of getting it down firm.
On Yovani Gallardo:
Kept us in the game. Command was not there. Ball/strike ratio was definitely not what Yo usually does. He got his pitch count up early, But he did, he kept us in the game. He made some good pitches when he needed to, I thought he made some great pitches with his fastball but he struggled. He did.
Breaking stuff was, most of it was balls. His curveball was almost always in the dirt. And they did a nice job of being patient with him. And that's what they've been doing: Their on-base percentage is very good, their average is very good, they're making pitchers work. And they made him work.
On having a chance to come back in the ninth:
I don't know. I think we still feel like we can come back late and win games. I think sometimes when you're against any closer it adds a little bit to the adrenaline and you know you've got a shot and you end up having some good at bats.
Did allowing a run in the eighth take away some of their momentum?
It did, but we still end up getting the tying run on. I'd certainly rather be down 2-0 than 3-0 but we ended up having the tying runs up there. We ended up having the winning run up there. So that wasn't the play. The big chances were early when we didn't score.
Is Brooks Conrad pressing?
Probably. Guy gets his chances he wants to show us what he can do. And he wants to stay here, he wants to get some big hits for us. He's got a lot of power. He's trying to drive the ball, which he should be, and sometimes it just doesn't translate for you. You're hot in AAA and you come up and sometimes it carries over and sometimes it doesn't.
