News and Notes:
- After loosing six in a row, eight of ten, and being swept by the cross-town White Sox, manager Dale Sveum is looking for anything to help kick start his stagnant club. A lineup shuffle is in order on the north side.
- Is blaming injuries a part of playing the game the right way? The Cardinals recent dip in play can, at least in part, be explained by their rash of injuries of late. The news is especially disconcerting for Lance Berkman. Matt Adams has been called up in place of Berkman, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list by the club.
- The Pirates' offense continues to struggle, making their decent start to the year all the more unexpected. Yesterday saw Tigers' starter Max Scherzer strike out 15 Pirates batters. Despite leading going into the seventh inning, the Pirates couldn't hold on and close out the victory. In other Pirates news, the club have placed right-handed reliever Jason Grilli on the bereavement list and promoted the lefty Jeff Locke to take his place. The club have also acquired infielder Drew Sutton from the Braves for cash considerations.
