  • Javier Baez, the Cubs' 2011 first round draft pick, who until now has been working in extended spring training, is scheduled to make his debut this weekend at Class-A Peoria.
  • The Cardinals have optioned reliever Fernando Salas to Triple-A Memphis and have recalled rookie right-hander Charlie Frick.
  • With the Cubs in the middle of their worst streak of the past 15 years, manager Dale Sveum has placed a high level of importance on the next few weeks in terms of future roster construction.
  • The Astros have made a minor trade, acquiring minor league catcher Jorbduan Morales from the Miami Marlins for Triple-A outfielder Justin Ruggiano.
