News and Notes:

  • Joey Votto sat out of yesterday's game, missing his first game of the year.
  • With the draft nearly upon us, the Cubs' draft brass are debating what to do with the No. 6 pick. The Cubs have a workout scheduled for their potential first round pick. The Tribune reports that the club will look to upgrade their pitching staff.
  • In other Cubs news, too bad they can't play the Padres every day.
  • Skip Schumaker, who pulled a hamstring during Wednesday's game in Atlanta, is likely headed for another stint on the disabled list.
  • Cardinals starter Jaime Garcia had an MRI on his elbow Wednesday after feeling discomfort following his Sunday start against the Phillies. He will not make his next scheduled start on Friday. Garcia isn't the only member of the Cardinals to be having injury issues. Outfielder Jon Jay is scheduled to get a second opinion on his sprained right shoulder today.
