Today In Brewer History: Brewers Blast Bronson Arroyo

The 2009 team is largely remembered as a pretty significant disappointment, but at this time that year the team was really hot. Three years ago today they blasted the Reds 15-3 to improve to 16-12, and were in the middle of a stretch where they won 21 of 26 games to improve their record all the way to 26-15 and take a three game lead in the NL Central.

The Brewer game on this day that year was over early, as they scored five runs in the first inning and four more in the second on a Ryan Braun grand slam to chase Reds starter Bronson Arroyo from the game after he had recorded just three outs. Craig Counsell had four hits in the game and Prince Fielder, Ryan Braun and J.J. Hardy all homered.

This game also featured a historic moment for backup catcher Carlos Corporan: He singled in the ninth inning in his major league debut, and it turned out to be his only plate appearance as a Brewer.

With help from the B-Ref Play Index, happy birthday today to 2002 Brewer Israel Alcantara. He turns 39. We covered his birthday in this space last year.
