News and Notes:

  • The Cubs are obviously in rebuilding mode. Club president Theo Epstein, however, says the club is not considering trading young shortstop Starlin Castro.
  • The Astros hold the No. 1 pick in the upcoming draft. One draft, however, will not be all it takes to turn the franchise around.
  • The Pirates have given outfielder Nate McLouth his unconditional release.
  • In a handful of roster moves the Cardinals have activated Allen Craig from the disabled list while placing Skip Schumaker on the 15-day disabled list. In the Bullpen Chuckie Fick was sent to Triple-A Memphis. Right-hander Maikel Cleto and lefty Sam Freeman have been called up to St. Louis.
