News and Notes:

  • Nick Masset is still making progress but several steps remain before he is ready to return to game action. Masset has been on the disabled list all season rehabbing a sore shoulder.
  • Despite the lineup shuffling, defensive subs, injuries, and interleague play, and unheralded expectations the Astros have preformed relatively well thus far this season.
  • The Astros have signed a number of their draft picks, including No. 1 pick Carlos Correa, and are well under their allotted bonus pool which bodes well for their efforts to sign their remaining picks.
  • ESPN's Jayson Stark chimes in on the Mark Appel-Pittsburgh Pirates signing issues.
  • The Cardinals have released reliever Scott Linebrink. Due to an injured shoulder Linebrink hasn't pitched this season.
  • The news for Cardinals left-hander Jaime Garcia isn't good. Garcia will be shelved for the next four weeks, at which time he will be re-examined.
