After playing Home Run Derby for three consecutive days at Miller Park this week, the Brewers traveled to Chicago to open a series tonight and for nine innings it looked like they left their bats at home. Chris Sale shut the Brewers out for the first eight innings allowing just four hits and a walk while striking out seven. He gave way to Addison Reed, who pitched a perfect ninth.
Fortunately, Zack Greinke was up to the challenge. He pitched nine scoreless tonight on just 100 pitches, allowing three hits and one walk while striking out four. This was the first time he's pitched nine innings as a Brewer, but the scoreless tie prevented him from recording a complete game.
The Brewer bats finally woke up in the tenth as Aramis Ramirez doubled, Nyjer Morgan pinch ran for him and advanced to third on a wild pitch and a Rickie Weeks single through the drawn in infield drove him home. John Axford protected the lead in the tenth and the Brewers improved to 4-5 in extra inning games this season.
Ryan Braun had one of the four Brewer hits against Sale tonight. He now has a hit in 16 straight games and 26 straight interleague games.
The Brewers will get their first chance to clinch their third straight series win tomorrow, when Randy Wolf faces Dylan Axelrod at 6:15.
