Today In Brewer History: Happy Birthday, Ginger Beaumont

On this day in 1876 Clarence Howeth "Ginger" Beaumont was born in Rochester, Wisconsin. He went to school at Beloit College and was 22 when he made his major league debut with the 1899 Pittsburgh Pirates.

Beaumont had a very successful 12 year major league career, leading the National League in hits four times and winning the 1902 batting title. His best season was probably 1903, when he led the NL in hits (209), runs (137) and total bases (272) as the Pirates went 91-49 and won the pennant.

All told, Beaumont hit .311/.362/.393 over 1463 in 12 major league seasons, and stole 254 bases.

Beaumont passed away in 1956, or he would have turned 136 today.
