On this day in 2001 the Brewers lost 7-2 to the Dodgers at Miller Park. A six-run fifth sank the Crew and Jamey Wright took the loss, having faced five batters in that inning and retiring none.
The loss was the Brewers' eleventh in a row, dropping them from 43-45 to 43-56. Brewer hitters posted a combined .208/.257/.335 line during the streak, while the pitchers posted a 5.46 ERA. Six of the eleven losses came at Miller Park, which was celebrating its inaugural season.
The Brewers beat the Dodgers the next day to end the streak, which remains as the fourth longest in franchise history.
With help from the B-Ref Play Index, happy birthday today to:
- 1995 Brewer Joe Oliver, who turns 47.
- Kewaunee, WI native, UW-La Crosse alum, 1975-84 Brewer and FS Wisconsin broadcaster Jerry Augustine, who turns 60.
Today is also the fourth anniversary of a 4-3 win over the Cardinals in 2008 that featured the Brewers' 20th consecutive game with a home run, setting a new franchise record. We covered that event in this space last year.
