The sample size is a little small, but I think we may be on to something here: The Brewers were 44-54 this season with Zack Greinke as a member of their team, and they're now 1-0 without him.
Just hours after learning that Greinke is no longer his teammate, Mike Fiers took the mound and pitched another great game. He worked 6.1 scoreless tonight and allowed just four hits and three walks, striking out nine. He left two men on when he departed the game in the seventh, but Livan Hernandez got the first batter he faced to bounce into a double play to end the threat.
Meanwhile, the Brewers got a big night offensively tonight from Aramis Ramirez, who had three hits and finished a triple shy of the cycle. Corey Hart only had one hit in the game but it was a big one: His two-run homer in the fourth gave the Crew a 2-0 lead.
Tonight's win snapped a seven game losing streak for the Brewers and a six game winning streak for the Nationals. This series continues tomorrow when Jordan Zimmerman takes on Randy Wolf at 6:10.
