Following Sunday's extra inning win the Brewers made a roster move, optioning Taylor Green to Nashville. No corresponding move was announced, but Todd Rosiak (linked via Twitter) says the Brewers will add a bench player in his place before resuming action on Friday at home.
Green was hitting .198/.280/.358 as a Brewer this season and had made just three plate appearances over eight games in July. His last start was on June 26, and he had gone just 1-for-11 in the Brewers' last 19 games.
In the Rosiak link above Ron Roenicke said the Brewers are sending Green back to Nashville to get more consistent at bats. There's really not an opportunity for him to get more than occasional playing time with the roster as it currently stands.
If the Brewers do intend to call up another player for the bench, it's tough to tell who it might be. First baseman Sean Halton is the only Nashville Sound currently carrying an OPS over .800, but he's only a first baseman so having Travis Ishikawa around would make him somewhat redundant. Shortstop Jeff Bianchi (hitting .300/.358/.365) could make more sense, but would leave the Brewers with three utility infielders.
Meanwhile, barring an injury that necessitates his return Green will have to stay in the minors at least ten days.
