Prognostikeggers 2012 - Week 18: Brewers vs. Phillies

Good morning everyone. There's a lot to cover this morning, so we're going to jump right into it. To start, we have to cover the special for this series.

Player Bonus: That's right, it's a player bonus series. You're going to hate me for this one. You saw the picture, so you can make a very good guess. This player bonus is based on the bullpen.

You can look at the rules for Prognostikeggers for the rules on how the player bonus works. For this player bonus, I also want to make a clarification on how it works. This is a player bonus. While you have the whole bullpen to choose from, you must still pick a player. The player may differ between the three different parts of the bonus, but in each case (especially the bonus), a player must be picked.

Still confused? Here's a few examples for the bonus prediction:

Not Valid for Player Bonus: Bullpen gives up 7 runs.
Valid for Player Bonus: Jim Henderson strikes out two batters.
Valid for Player Bonus: John Axford and Francisco Rodriguez each strike out one batter.
Not Valid for Player Bonus: John Axford or Francisco Rodriguez strikes out one batter.

The basic rule of the player bonus is you're at least depending on one player to get your points. That's why the two invalid bonus predictions are not valid; you're not depending on one player.

Finally, I have one more clarification here. In the event a starter cannot make a start and a reliever is called on the start, that reliever is not consider a reliever for that game. For this bonus, the pitchers that qualify as a reliever are pitchers that come from the bullpen. Only pitchers that pitch from the bullpen on a given day are eligible for the player bonus.

After all this, I do have some good news. Bonus predictions for relievers are a little easier. It's not as simple as just picking a reliever to make an appearance, but simpler predictions will qualify. Remember, as a non-starter, the chance of that player making an appearance in the game is also factored in. Also, while it's against the spirit of the game, you can use negative bonus predictions.

Hopefully I didn't just confuse you all with that long description. Let's move on to the rest of it now.

Extra Prediction for the Series: It's a simple prediction this time. All you have to do is predict who the first reliever out of the bullpen will be. It's worth three points if you are correct (and that is including the player bonus point you would get).
