Win Expectancy Graph

The Brewer offense got off to a good start today by scoring two runs on three doubles in the first inning, but went quiet after that with the exception of Ryan Braun's MLB-leading 34th home run. Braun had three hits in the game and finished a single shy of the cycle. Fortunately, three runs was enough.

Yovani Gallardo was very good today, allowing two runs on four hits over seven innings and striking out nine. Both runs he allowed were on solo home runs, including Bryan LaHair's first since July 4. That left a one run lead and two innings to cover for the Brewer bullpen, and Jim Henderson and John Axford successfully recorded the final six outs to close out the contest.

John Axford recorded his 20th save today, less than 24 hours after getting his 19th. This is the first time he's recorded saves on back-to-back days since the 29th and 30th of May.

Today's win improved the Brewers to 38-28 at home this season and 10-2 in their last 12 games at Miller Park. They are still, however, 19-38 on the road.

The Brewers are off tomorrow before opening a three game series in Pittsburgh on Friday. Mike Fiers will face Wandy Rodriguez at 7:05.
