Pitching was the story again tonight, as Mike Fiers was able to continue his unlikely run of success.
The Brewer rookie pitched into the eighth inning tonight and allowed just one run on four hits, walking one and striking out six. Fiers was lifted after 7.1 innings despite having thrown just 87 pitches in the game. The Brewers still haven't had a complete game since April of 2011.
Elsewhere in streaks, the Brewers were unable to extend their run of eight straight games with ten or more strikeouts.
It's a good thing the Brewer pitching was good tonight, because the bats were somewhat quiet. They put together eight hits in the game but just three runs. Jean Segura drove in the go-ahead run with a seventh inning single, then scored another when a stolen base and a pair of errors allowed him to come all the way around from first.
With tonight's win the Brewers improved to 13-3 against the Cubs this season. They're 49-64 against everyone else.
This series wraps up tomorrow when Shaun Marcum takes on Brooks Raley at 1:20.
