The Brewers have been pretty awful overall lately, but they rode the home run ball to their fourth straight home win tonight.
The Brewers got a strong outing tonight from Yovani Gallardo, who allowed a single run on six hits over seven innings, walking three and striking out four. The lone run scored on a Zack Cosart solo homer.
The Brewers scored a single run to give him the lead in the fifth, then tacked on four more with three homers in the sixth. The Crew carried a four run lead into the ninth but it almost wasn't enough, as Francisco Rodriguez allowed two runs to cross the plate while recording a single out in the eighth and left the bases loaded for John Axford.
Fortunately, Axford was able to bend but not break in the eighth. He allowed two hard-hit balls but was saved by an excellent catch by Norichika Aoki, then came back out to pitch a perfect ninth for just his second save since July 15.
Aoki, by the way, was one of five Brewers with multiple hits tonight. Aramis Ramirez was another, and his double was his 37th of the season.
This series continues tomorrow when Mike Fiers takes on Johnny Cueto at 7:10.
