A few thousand fans went to see a baseball game in Pittsburgh tonight and saw a track meet break out.
The Brewer offense scored six runs tonight on 13 hits and stole seven bases for just the third time in franchise history. They've stolen 29 bases against the Pirates this season, 12 more than they've taken against any other team. Ryan Braun had three of those steals and is now three away from becoming the eleventh 40/30 player in major league history.
That was more than enough for Yovani Gallardo, who allowed just two hits while pitching 6.2 scoreless innings. He was lifted from the game with the bases loaded in the seventh but Jim Henderson bailed him out of that jam and Kameron Loe and Jose Veras closed out the shutout win.
Carlos Gomez and Jonathan Lucroy led the Brewers with three hits tonight, and each also stole a base and scored a run. Norichika Aoki, Ryan Braun and Jean Segura all also had multiple hits. All 13 Brewer hits were singles.
Tonight's win improved the Brewers to 75-72 and lifted them to three games above .500 for the first time this season. They'll gain a game today on the Pirates and half a game on the Dodgers and Phillies, who were both rained out. The Cardinals lead in the late innings in Houston.
This series continues tomorrow when Marco Estrada faces Kyle McPherson at 6:05.
