On this day in 1975 first baseman George Scott had one of the better offensive days in the Brewers' young franchise history. He singled in the fourth inning, homered in the sixth and doubled in the eighth to set up a ninth inning plate appearance where he needed a triple for the cycle. He homered again instead.
Despite Scott's eleven total bases, however, the Brewers lost 7-6 to the Indians on Oscar Gamble's pinch hit walkoff single in the bottom of the ninth. Scott was the first Brewer ever to have more than ten total bases in a loss, and he's still one of just three:
|George Scott||September 22, 1975||Indians||4-for-5, 2B, 2 HR||Indians win, 7-6|
|Paul Molitor||May 12, 1982||Royals||4-for-5, 3 HR||Royals win, 9-7|
|Ryan Braun||April 21, 2009||Phillies||5-for-5, 2 HR||Phillies win, 11-4|
