Win Expectancy Graph

Eventually the Brewers had to stop playing the Pirates and Cubs and while the Marlins aren't significantly better than either of those teams, they were good enough to ride a five-run fourth inning to the win today.

Mike Fiers was carrying a two run lead into the fourth inning when the wheels came off and he allowed seven straight batters to reach on five singles, an error (his own) and a walk. Five runs scored in the inning and that was enough to give the Marlins the win. All told Fiers allowed six runs (four earned) on six hits and four walks over 3.1 innings.

Fiers committed two of the Brewers' four errors today. Jean Segura and Rickie Weeks also each had one.

The Brewers scored their first two runs in the second inning on a Carlos Gomez home run that bounced off the top of the left field wall and over. Gomez now has 16 home runs this season, doubling his previous career high. Norichika Aoki, Ryan Braun and Jean Segura each had two hits today.

Livan Hernandez followed Fiers to the mound today and pitched 2.2 perfect innings to save the bullpen a bit. Brandon Kintzler, recalled from Nashville earlier today, pitched a scoreless seventh in his 2012 Brewer debut.

The Brewers are now 0-1 all time at Marlins Park. They'll get a chance to even it up tomorrow night when Shaun Marcum takes on Wade LeBlanc at 6:10.
