Today In Brewer History: 2000 For Yount

On this day in 1986 the Indians scored the game's first 12 runs and 14 of the first 16 en route to a 17-9 thrashing of the Brewers. Cleveland outfielder Joe Carter had five hits in the game, including two home runs and two doubles.

Meanwhile, Robin Yount only had one hit for the Brewers, a seventh inning single. That hit, however, was the 2000th of his career. The hit made Yount the first Brewer ever to reach 2000 and he's still just one of two, as Paul Molitor joined him later. Ryan Braun, the Brewer active leader, is still about 950 hits away from reaching that mark.

Yount eventually finished his career with 3142 hits. Among major leaguers with at least 1400 games at shortstop, only Derek Jeter (3267) and Cal Ripken (3184) have more.

With help from Brewerfan.net, happy birthday today to AZL Brewer Carlos Sosa. He turns 21.

Today is also the anniversary of a 2010 game against the Giants where the Brewers turned a triple play and executed the "bowling ball" celebration after Prince Fielder's walkoff home run. We covered that event in this space last year.
