Kyle Lohse rumors: Veteran "could be possibility" for Braves

New, comments

Lohse has two years remaining on his contract with the Brewers.

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

Kyle Lohse was pretty good in 2013, posting a 3.35 ERA over 198.2 innings in the first year of his three-year contract with the Brewers. We've been mostly operating under the assumption that he'll be back with the Crew next season, but to the right team he could be a valuable commodity.

The Braves are one team that could make sense as a destination for Lohse, according to David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal Constitution (via Twitter). O'Brien was asked if the Braves could go after Lohse or Yovani Gallardo, and singled out the former as a possibility.

Mike Minor set a new career high by pitching 204.2 innings for Atlanta in 2013, but he, Kris Medlen and Julio Teheran were the only Braves to pitch 160 or more innings this season. Paul Maholm and Tim Hudson combined to make 47 starts for Atlanta in 2013, but both are free agents this winter. Lohse would give the Braves a veteran innings eater to go with what could be a very young rotation.

This is closer to "idle speculation" than "actual rumor" at this point, but it does make some logical sense. So what do you think? What would the Brewers have to get back from the Braves to make this deal work?
