W: Mike Fiers (2-0)
L: Hyun-Jin Ryu (0-2)
HR: None
The 5,000+ crowd at Maryvale perhaps came away impressed with the Brewers' shiny white Cerveceros jerseys, but certainly not their defense.
Mike Fiers pitched four innings, working around six hits and a walk and allowing two runs, both unearned. Fiers managed to work around an error in the second, stranding the bases loaded after Rickie Weeks bobbled a tailor-made double play. Fiers wasn't so lucky in the fourth, when a run scored on Carlos Gomez's fielding error. The Dodgers would get their final run on an RBI double by Mark Ellis.
The Brewers had a big fourth inning of their own, scoring three. Both erring defenders contributed: Carlos Gomez walked, continuing his incredible display of plate patience this spring; and Weeks tripled him home. Khris Davis and Blake Lalli each contributed RBI singles.
Also tossing scoreless frames for the Brewers were Jesus Sanchez, Michael Gonzalez, Brandon Kintzler, and Donovan Hand, who earned his first save of the spring. Kintzler added a third error (throwing) during his inning.
Cactus League play continues tomorrow against the Rangers at 3:05 p.m. Central.
