On this day in 1966 Mike Ignasiak was born in Anchorville, Michigan. He pitched in college for the University of Michigan before the Brewers made him their eighth round pick in the 1988 draft. Three years later, he was a big leaguer for the first time in 1991.
All told Ignasiak appeared in 79 games as a Brewer over parts of four seasons, posting a 4.80 ERA over 137 innings of work. His most notable attribute might be his last name: When he debuted in 1991 he was the first Brewer in franchise history to have a last name starting with I, and until 2008 he was the only one:
Player | Season(s) |
Mike Ignasiak | 1991-95 |
Hernan Iribarren | 2008-09 |
Joe Inglett | 2010 |
Travis Ishikawa | 2012 |
Cesar Izturis | 2012 |
Thanks to the B-Ref Play Index for reminding me that Ignasiak turns 47 today. We'd also like to wish a happy birthday to:
- Eulogio De La Cruz, who turns 29.
- 1997 Brewer Greg Hansell, who turns 42.
- 1977 Brewer Jimmy Wynn, who turns 71. We covered his birthday in this space last year.
