Today In Brewer History: So Long, Dave Parker

The 1990 Silver Slugger moved along on this day in 1991.

Longtime major leaguer Dave Parker had one of the best seasons of the latter part of his career as a Brewer in 1990, making the AL All Star team and winning a Silver Slugger Award. On this day in 1991 his Brewer career came to an end, as the team traded the former batting champ and MVP to the Angels for outfielder Dante Bichette.

Parker's major league career was just about over at this point: He split his final major league season between the Angels and Blue Jays and hit just .239/.288/.365. He finished his career with 526 doubles, the 27th most in major league history. Bichette played two relatively pedestrian seasons as a Brewer before going to Colorado and having the seasons he's better known for, winning a home run title and making four All Star appearances.

With help from the B-Ref Play Index, happy birthday today to Josh Stinson. He turns 25.

Today is also the tenth anniversary of Bob Uecker being announced as the 2003 Ford Frick Award winner, earning him induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame. We covered that event in this space last year.
