A's Claim Josh Stinson Off Waivers

The waiver circle of life continues for one big league reliever.

Mike McGinnis

Earlier today (while I was off watching Oz) the Brewers announced that right-handed reliever Josh Stinson has been claimed off waivers by the A's. Stinson appeared in ten games for the Brewers this spring and was very effective, posting a 1.50 ERA over 12 innings, but did walk eight while striking out just five.

This is the second time in as many years Stinson has been claimed off waivers. The Brewers picked him up from the Mets almost a year ago to the day, and now he's moving on to the A's. Stinson spent most of 2012 as a AA Huntsville Star but did post a 0.96 ERA over six September appearances with the Crew, including a start in the final game of the season.

Stinson's departure clears a spot on the 40-man roster that Adam McCalvy says will go to either reliever Donovan Hand or Alfredo Figaro. If the Brewers decide to keep Blake Lalli on the roster to open the season, they'll need to clear another spot.
