BROADCAST INFORMATION: Today's game will be on WTMJ and the Brewers Radio Network with Joe Block and Bob Uecker.
The Brewers head back to Maryvale today for a 2:05 p.m. contest against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Dbacks are coming off losses to WBC team Mexico and the Royals, who routed Arizona 8-1 yesterday.
Mark Rogers gets the nod on the mound for the Brewers, and it will be an important start for him. Rogers' last start came on February 24 against Cleveland, and it was messy: 2 earned runs over 1.2 innings. More alarming, Rogers struggled badly with his command, walking 3 and throwing just 6 of his 21 pitches for strikes. Rogers also pitched in a game against WBC team Italy last Friday, when he walked 4 over 2 innings.
Fortunately, today's starter for the Diamondbacks is Wade Miley, whose first start was similarly bad. Miley took the loss to the Rangers on March 2, allowing 3 earned runs over 2 innings. Miley, you might recall, had a breakout year in 2012, going 16-11 with a 3.33 ERA over nearly 200 innings. He was an All-Star and placed second in rookie-of-the-year voting, losing to Bryce Harper of the Nationals.
RHPs Alfredo Figaro, 2011 1st-rounder Taylor Jungmann, and Michael Olmstead are also scheduled to pitch today. Olmstead, who is on a minor-league deal, is making a serious push for the bullpen.
