New Feature: Brewers Twitter round-up

A recap of Brew Crew chatter in the Twitterverse.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Please welcome new BCB contributor Matt Hoffman, the latest addition to our roster from this winter's tryout process. His first post is below. - KL

More and more professional athletes are taking to twitter to interact with fans or just to translate whatever passes through their mind into 140 characters.

While the loss of Nyjer Morgan was a far greater blow to the Brewer’s twitter community than their performance on the field, the team still has a robust twitter presence.

Each week, we’ll recap that presence, covering the good, the bad, and the ugly. For now, there’s a ripe harvest of off-season tweets to highlight.

Chris Narveson isn't just into one sport; he's been soaking up the NCAA basketball tournament, and like most people, probably grimaced watching Louisville's Andre Ware's leg split in two.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Wow that has to be one of the nastiest injuries I have seen in awhile on TV <a href="https://twitter.com/search/%23Elite8">#Elite8</a></p>&mdash; Chris Narveson (@sleep_trick) <a href="https://twitter.com/sleep_trick/status/318478177150324736">March 31, 2013</a></blockquote>

His endorsement of Collin Kaepernick might grate Packers fans, regardless of the quarterback's Milwaukee Roots

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Great to see @<a href="https://twitter.com/kaepernick7">kaepernick7</a> rocking a brewers hat in <a href="https://twitter.com/search/%23SportsCenter">#SportsCenter</a> interview!!</p>&mdash; Chris Narveson (@sleep_trick) <a href="https://twitter.com/sleep_trick/status/291180070519832576">January 15, 2013</a></blockquote>

But back to the NCAA Tournament. The Florida Gulf Coast Eagles captured the nation's attention during the Sweet 16 run. Sounds like their baseball recruiting is a bit behind their basketball program.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>So little known fact about me... I almost went to @<a href="https://twitter.com/fgcueagles">fgcueagles</a> out of high school. Called to commit... Coach didn't answer. <a href="https://twitter.com/search/%23lifeisweird">#lifeisweird</a></p>&mdash; Jonathan Lucroy (@JLucroy20) <a href="https://twitter.com/JLucroy20/status/316055943634894849">March 25, 2013</a></blockquote>

John Axford, one of the Crew's more prolific posters, perhaps could have used a couple extra days at spring training.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Hello frozen breath of Milwaukee! <a href="https://twitter.com/search/%23OpeningDay">#OpeningDay</a></p>&mdash; John Axford (@JohnAxford) <a href="https://twitter.com/JohnAxford/status/317482672282812417">March 29, 2013</a></blockquote>
<script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Of course, no mention of Axford is complete without a facial hair reference.

There is even some talk about baseball. Jim Henderson thought the early season crowds were putting up a good showing.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>I could see a couple things bouncing all the way from the bullpen to House of Pain - Jump Around. @<a href="https://twitter.com/frontrowandy">frontrowandy</a> @<a href="https://twitter.com/frontrowamy">frontrowamy</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/search/%23large">#large</a></p>&mdash; Jim Henderson (@JimHenderson29) <a href="https://twitter.com/JimHenderson29/status/319316110249979904">April 3, 2013</a></blockquote>
<script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Henderson's picture of Miller Park might best summarize how some fans feel about the stadium.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Hard to see, but that is Miller Park being hit by rays of sunshine.<a href="https://twitter.com/search/%23OneMoreSleep">#OneMoreSleep</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/search/%23OpeningDay">#OpeningDay</a> <a href="http://t.co/uleFPLdX8S" title="http://twitter.com/JimHenderson29/status/318490359846035457/photo/1">twitter.com/JimHenderson29…</a></p>&mdash; Jim Henderson (@JimHenderson29) <a href="https://twitter.com/JimHenderson29/status/318490359846035457">March 31, 2013</a></blockquote>

Martin Maldonado was certainly getting a little antsy waiting for the season.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Good morning one more day to keep getting ready and one less day for opening day lets go BREWERS</p>&mdash; Martin Maldonado (@Machete1224) <a href="https://twitter.com/Machete1224/status/315452993493426176">March 23, 2013</a></blockquote>

Just a little.
