This is not how good road trips start.
Yovani Gallardo was stretched to the limit just to finish four innings tonight. He only allowed three runs but gave up five hits and five walks and needed 100 pitches to complete four frames, sending him to the showers early. He picked up an ugly loss and left the Brewer bullpen to pick up four innings on the first of 13 games in 13 days. They did so reasonably well, but the Crew still lost 4-3 to drop to 1-7 in May.
Meanwhile, all of the Brewer offense came in the fourth inning when Jean Segura and Ryan Braun went back-to-back against Tony Cingrani. Like Gallardo, Cingrani was chased from the game early but the Brewers were unable to complete a rally against the Reds bullpen.
Carlos Gomez went 0-for-4 tonight to snap his hitting streak at 14 games. Braun's home run extended his streak to eleven games. Meanwhile, Norichika Aoki was on base five times with three singles and two walks, but did not score until the ninth inning, when his run didn't matter.
This series continues tomorrow at 3:10 with Hiram Burgos taking on Mat Latos.
