After today's game, the Brewers made a roster move, putting Tom Gorzelanny on the 15-day DL with left shoulder tendinitis. Gorzelanny has appeared in 18 of the Brewers 34 games so far, on pace to go well above the 45 appearances he made last year with the Nationals (his career high). He has posted a career best 2.30 ERA so far, but his FIP is high at 5.10, his strikeout numbers are down (5.7 K/9 in 2013, 7.8 in 2012) and his walk numbers are up (4.6 BB/9 in 2013, 3.8 in 2012).
To fill Gorzelanny's roster spot, Mike Fiers will be recalled from High-A Brevard County tomorrow. Fiers struggled in his limited time with the Brewers in 2012, posting an 8.59 ERA and 7.08 FIP between one start and two relief appearances. He was sent to Triple-A Nashville and improved there, posting a 1.59 ERA and 3.55 FIP in three starts (17 IP) with 17 strikeouts. His last appearance was with High-A Brevard County while dealing with a family issue. In that game, he gave up four runs in six innings, but did strike out eight.
