On April 30, the Brewers beat the Pirates to clinch a series win at Miller Park. They still haven't won a series since after dropping a 9-2 decision in the rubber game against the Dodgers today.
This one was over early as Wily Peralta and the Brewer defense let it get away in the second inning. Eleven Dodgers came to the plate and five runs scored in the frame on five hits and an error, although at least one of the hits should have been another error. The last two runs scored on bases loaded walks before Peralta left the game.
The Brewer bullpen that had been great recently was also roughed up a bit today. Ramon Hernandez's solo home run against Alfredo Figaro in the third was the first run a reliever had allowed in over 20 innings, and Brandon Kintzler allowed two more in mop-up duty in the ninth. Burke Badenhop pitched two scoreless innings in between those two outings, though, and has now worked 11.2 innings in May without giving up an earned run.
On the offensive side, the Brewers had nine hits today but Norichika Aoki was the only player with more than one. Ryan Braun's home run in the sixth inning broke up the shutout and was his first in ten games.
The Brewers get a much-needed day off tomorrow (their only one in a span of a month) before opening a series against the Pirates on Friday.
