Another day, another new low. The Brewers are now 0-6-1 in series play in May and ten games under .500 for the first time in 2013 after losing the last two games in this weekend's Pirates series, including a 5-3 defeat today.
Starting pitching continues to be an issue for this team as Yovani Gallardo was only able to work four innings again today. He allowed four runs on seven hits and a pair of walks, tying a season high with seven strikeouts. The Brewers are 0-5 in his appearances in May, and he's posted a 5.53 ERA over that time.
The Brewers crept back into today's game in the fifth inning when back-to-back-to-back singles loaded the bases for Ryan Braun, who unloaded them with a three-run double. After going six straight games without an extra base hit, Braun has at least one in three of his last four games. They closed the gap again in the eighth when Jeff Bianchi hit his first career triple and scored on a Carlos Gomez sac fly.
Yovani Gallardo's early exit opened the door for Donovan Hand to make his major league debut. He pitched two innings and allowed a run on three hits and a walk, collecting three strikeouts. He is already the 16th pitcher to appear in a game for the Crew this season.
The Brewers and Twins will be a combined 19 games under .500 when they open a brief two-game set at Miller Park with a Memorial Day matinee tomorrow. Wily Peralta will take on Kevin Correia at 1:10.
