I just received a press release from the Brevard County Manatees announcing that Francisco Rodriguez has been added to their roster and will be in uniform for tonight's game.
The Brewers signed K-Rod to a minor league deal in April that gave the team 30 days to keep him in the minors before they have to either add him to the major league roster or offer him his release. Since then, though, he's had to deal with a work visa issue. So now instead of getting 30 days to evaluate him the Brewers have ten, counting today.
Rodriguez appeared in a career-high 78 games for the Brewers last season and posted a career-high 4.38 ERA, striking out a career-low 9.0 batters per nine innings and allowing eight home runs, the most he's given up since 2003. He's fifth among all active pitchers with 682 career relief appearances, and third with 294 saves.
Rodriguez last pitched in a game for Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic. He appeared in two games in the opening round of the tournament.
