On this day in 1989 Wily Peralta was born in Samana in the Dominican Republic. He was 16 when the Brewers signed him as an amateur free agent in 2005 and 17 when he made his US professional debut in 2006.
Peralta had already spent parts of six seasons in the minors in the US but was still only 22 years old when he made his major league debut in April of last year, and last night's quality start against the Rangers was his 13th major league appearance and 12th start before his 24th birthday.
Thanks to the B-Ref Play Index for reminding me that Peralta turns 24 today.
Today is also the 29th anniversary of the Brewers' 7-6, 25 inning loss to the White Sox in 1984, which we covered in this space last year, and Jody Gerut's cycle in 2010, which we covered in this space two years ago.
