Day games suck: Cubs 7, Brewers 2

Everything was bad today, and the Brewers lost.

Mike McGinnis

W: Matt Garza (3-1)
L: Wily Peralta (5-9)

HR: Juan Francisco (9), Dioner Navarro (7)

MVP: Aramis Ramirez (+.061 WPA)
LVP: Wily Peralta (-.321)

Today was the Brewers' 28th day game of the season, and now they're 9-19 in those games.

31,792 fans showed up to watch the Brewers today, but the Brewer bats, defense and pitching did not show up. They fell behind early when some bad defense opened the door for a bad day for Wily Peralta. He allowed seven runs over five innings, but only three were earned.

The Brewers managed nine hits but only two runs, including Juan Francisco's third home run in as many days. Francisco also had three of their 12 strikeouts. Rickie Weeks went 1-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to eleven games, and Jean Segura also went 1-for-4 to extend his streak to ten games. Sean Halton entered the game as a pinch hitter and got a hit in his major league debut.

The Brewers will resume play on Friday in sole possession of last place in the Central following a series loss. Johnny Hellweg will take on Gerrit Cole and the Pirates in Pittsburgh at 6:10. The Pirates are off today but entered the day tied for baseball's best record.
