Early All Star voting has Ryan Braun starting for the NL

New, comments

If voting ended today he'd be the only Brewer in the starting lineup.

USA TODAY Sports

Major League Baseball released their first update on the All Star voting this afternoon, and based on these projections Ryan Braun is the Brewers' only likely starter.

Braun is currently third among all NL outfielders with 945,665 votes, trailing Justin Upton of the Braves (1.184 million) and Bryce Harper of the Nationals (1.182 million). He's the only Brewer within shouting distance of the lead in any vote. Here are the other Brewers in the top five:

  • Jonathan Lucroy is fourth among NL catchers with 313,574 votes. Buster Posey currently leads that race and all NL players with over 1.2 million.
  • Jean Segura has 554,403 votes and is third among NL shortstops, but almost 500,000 votes behind Troy Tulowitzki.
  • Carlos Gomez is 12th among NL outfielders with 472,272 votes.

Braun has been elected into the starting lineup by the fans in each of the last five seasons, including 2011 when he was unable to participate due to injury. By his standards he's actually having a bit of a down year, posting a .294/.372/.518 line for a .890 OPS after leading the NL with .994 and .987 marks the last two seasons.
