These series losses are starting to feel pretty commonplace.
The A's came to Milwaukee as winners of 14 of 16 games and the Brewers didn't do much to cool them off this week, dropping two of three. The final blow came today when 40-year-old pitcher Bartolo Colon and the A's held them to a single run in a 6-1 loss at Miller Park.
The game was 1-1 heading into the seventh inning when the wheels came off for Yovani Gallardo, who allowed all four batters he faced in the frame to reach and two runs to score. He was followed to the mound by Michael Gonzalez, who was unable to put out the fire and gave up a three run homer to Brandon Moss.
The only Brewer pitcher to escape today's game unscathed was Tyler Thornburg, who made his 2013 debut by pitching a scoreless eighth and ninth. That makes him a question mark for a possible start on Saturday when Marco Estrada's turn in the rotation comes up.
Elsewhere in firsts, Scooter Gennett picked up his first MLB hit when he singled in the ninth inning.
The homestand continues with a four game series against the Phillies starting tomorrow. Wily Peralta will take on Tyler Cloyd at 7:10.
