After a rough start in yesterday afternoon's game, Johnny Hellweg was demoted to Single-A Appleton without an immediate corresponding roster move. Today, Caleb Gindl was recalled to aid in the wake of nagging injuries to Norichika Aoki and Ryan Braun to return to a typical 5-man bench. Gindl has been hot at AAA Nashville since his demotion, with a robust .421/.463/.658 slash in his last 10 games.
However, Todd Rosiak over at JSOnline reports that Ryan Braun has been placed on the bereavement list due to what's being called a "family medical issue." Tom Haudricourt tweets that a corresponding roster move will be made after the game tonight; he notes that a stint on the bereavement list is 3-7 days.
Just hours after fixing the bench shortage, it unfixes itself. 24 active players in uniform for one more night, at least.
Oh, and let the conspiracy theories begin.
More transaction info as it comes in.
