The season started, of course, with Ryan Braun in left field. Then Braun got suspended and Khris Davis took the opportunity to make a name for himself. Tonight, with Davis on the shelf with a wrist injury, Caleb Gindl got a chance and he made the most of it.
Gindl got the Brewers on the board by tripling in a run in the fourth inning, then singled and scored in the sixth before blowing the game open with a two-run homer in the seventh. Gindl drove in three runs and scored three more as the Crew picked up a 6-1 victory.
Tonight's game featured a battle of starting pitchers with 15 losses, and Wily Peralta won the duel. He held the Cubs to a single (unearned) run on five hits over six innings, walking two and striking out seven. Edwin Jackson, meanwhile, carried a no-hitter into the fourth inning but allowed two runs in that frame and was lifted early.
This series continues tomorrow night when Marco Estrada takes on Jeff Samardzija at 7:10.
