As expected, Brandon Kintzler has been activated off the disabled list and will be available in tomorrow's series opener against the Cubs.
Kintzler had been out of action with a slight strain in his rotator cuff, but after throwing a simulated inning Wednesday and getting checked out by a doctor on Thursday he was given the a-OK to return to the active roster.
To make room for Kintzler, the Brewers have optioned Alfredo Figaro back to Triple-A Nashville. Figaro had been called up earlier this week to replace Rob Wooten in an effort to replenish a worn-down Brewers bullpen. He appeared in just one game, allowing one run on two hits over three innings.
Before going down with his injury, Kintzler had been among the most effective relievers on the team. He has made five appearances this season and has yet to allow a run. He has allowed just two hits with two strikeouts while not giving up a walk yet. Last year, Kintzler pitched in 71 games with a 2,69 ERA.
Between the off day on Thursday and Kintzler's return, the Brewers will finally have some fresh arms for the Cubs series. Between two recent long extra-innings games and no days off, most of the bullpen had been getting worn down. All of the bullpen except Wei-Chung Wang, anyway.
