Here is the Brewers lineup for Friday's game against the Boston Red Sox.
CF Gomez
SS Segura
DH Braun
3B Ramirez
C Lucroy
RF Schafer
LF Davis
2B Gennett
1B Overbay
P Estrada
With the DH in play, Ryan Braun gets first crack at the position as he continues to deal with a damaged nerve in his thumb. He has had trouble knowing how hard he is gripping baseballs or his bat, but will continue to play through any numbness. Starting at DH will also allow the Brewers to ease him into a road atmosphere as he travels for the first time post-suspension.
Braun should be able to handle any hecklers in the right field bleachers. I doubt that they'll be any worse than when he first tested positive for steroids, but escaped suspension. Still, it's probably worthwhile to give him some time off from the field while the team can. Ron Roenicke has said he would also like to give Jean Segura and Aramis Ramirez time at DH if he can.
Meanwhile, Jean Segura and Khris Davis are both back in the lineup after a two-day rest. Segura was held out of the lineup in the third game of the Braves series as he still recovers from a sore shoulder while Davis was given a quick reprieve after starting the year 0-7. Lyle Overbay and Scooter Gennett are playing as the Brewers face right-hander Jake Peavy.
Marco Estrada will make his first start of the season. Derek had more on him this morning.
Here is the Red Sox lineup for the game:
Daniel Nava, RF
Dustin Pedroia, 2B
David Ortiz, DH
Mike Napoli, 1B
Mike Carp, LF
Grady Sizemore, CF
Xander Bogaerts, SS
A.J. Pierzynski, C
Will Middlebrooks, 3B
Jake Peavy, SP
