Rickie Weeks gets his first start of the year against a righthander today, and he's batting third. But hitting back-to-back in the heart of the Brewer lineup is nothing new for Weeks and Lyle Overbay. Take July 22, 2005, for example, when the Brewers lost 11-6 to the Reds through no fault of Weeks or Overbay, who each went 2-4, with Rickie hitting a home run.
This feels like a sink-or-swim game for Weeks. After his solid game last night, Roenicke may be creating the circumstances for him to either force his way into a bigger role at second base or set him up for a departure. Either way, I'll be pulling for him.
Aramis Ramirez sits today and the news reports on his hamstring have made it sound like he is not available and may be switching places with Ryan Braun on the disabled list early next week. At least Lucroy should be available off the bench to pinch-hit against a left-hander.
Long story short, Matt Garza is going to have to get back on the right track. Game time is 1:10 Central. Go Brewers!
Update: McCalvy confirms Ramirez to the DL. With the possibility of a Carlos Gomez suspension early next week, the Brewers would need Ryan Braun back to stay at 4 outfielders. After the suspension you would think Caleb Gindl would be headed back to AAA and an infielder would be coming to Milwaukee.
