Khris Davis moves up to 5th in batting order

It's a right-handed heavy lineup today as the Brewers face the Cubs, who send out left-handed starter Travis Wood.

Today's Lineups

CHICAGO CUBS MILWAUKEE BREWERS
Emilio Bonifacio - 2B Jean Segura - SS
Junior Lake - CF Ryan Braun - RF
Luis Valbuena - 3B Jonathan Lucroy - 1B
Starlin Castro - SS Carlos Gomez - CF
Justin Ruggiano - LF Khris Davis - LF
Welington Castillo - C Rickie Weeks - 2B
Nate Schierholtz - RF Mark Reynolds - 3B
Mike Olt - 1B Martin Maldonado - C
Travis Wood - LHP Marco Estrada - RHP

While the top four in the batting order have settled in nicely, there's been a little more shuffling from the fifth spot down. Ron Roenicke has mainly put the hot bat at #5, and he's continuing that today, as Khris Davis takes that spot in the batting order.

This will be Davis' 8th start this year in the #5 spot, and his first time in the spot since May 5th against the Diamondbacks. He has batted as high as 4th and as low as 8th this year. Roenicke is riding the hot bat here, and Davis has definitely been hot.  Here are his recent splits:

Split G PA AB R H 2B HR RBI BB SO Batting Line
Last 7 days 5 23 19 7 10 4 3 5 4 2 .526 / .609 / 1.211 / 1.819
Last 14 days 10 43 38 9 14 4 5 9 5 7 .368 / .442 / .868 / 1.310
Last 28 days 21 82 74 13 21 7 6 13 7 15 .284 / .341 / .622 / .963

It's definitely better than the start of the season, where he was struggling to find any production. His batting average reached a low of .212 at the end of the Yankees series, but since then he has boosted it to .251. He's currently riding a seven-game hitting streak, as well as a three-game home-run streak and a six-game extra-base hit streak. He hasn't seen much of tonight's Cubs starter, Travis Wood, but in 6 PA, he does have two hits, one of those being a home run.

It's a pretty typical lineup tonight for the Brewers as they face a left-handed starter.  Rickie Weeks gets the start at second tonight, and Jonathan Lucroy moves to first for the night so Martin Maldonado can make a start. The Brewers haven't had much success against Travis Wood in the past, putting up a batting line of .194/.275/.387 against him. Mark Reynolds has seen some success, going 4-for-10 with two walks and one home run against Wood. Ryan Braun has also had some success against him, going 7-for-25 with four doubles, a home run, and a walk. Rickie Weeks has the most plate appearances against Wood (28), and has only batted 3-for-24 against him, but two of those hits were home runs.
