Win: Jorge De La Rosa (8-6)
Loss: Yovani Gallardo (5-5)
HR: Ryan Braun (10), Charlie Culberson (2)
The Brewers won the first three games of this series before losing the fourth. Let's allow that to be the narrative of this rather than a dreadful performance in the fourth game.
The Brewers just had little to give today in the last of a 20-game stretch with no breaks. Yovani Gallardo lasted five innings. but allowed eight runs on 10 hits with three strikeouts and a walk. Only five of those runs were earned as Gallardo needed to work around a pair of errors.
The Rockies barely even gave Milwaukee a chance to rebut out of the gate. After three Colorado runs in the first inning, they scored one more in each of the second and third innings for an early 5-0 lead.
The Brewers did get a pair back in the fourth, including one on a Ryan Braun solo home run. That was just his third home run in June and his first since the 14th. With the lead cut to 5-2 the Rockies put the game well out of range with a three-spot on this play:
In the bottom of the sixth , the Brewers scored two more but it would prove to be not enough. Colorado scored two more late runs against Brandon Kintzler and the Brewers offense didn't show up again. Overall, Milwaukee had just four hits, two off the bat of Ryan Braun.
The Brewers will have the day off Monday before kicking off July with a quick two game series in Toronto against the Blue Jays.
