Earlier this week, I highlighted 6 names I had heard in connection with the Brewers first pick. I also highlighted some other names that might be on the radar. The Brewers among the most secretive clubs in baseball so it's possible they pick someone I never mentioned.
There has been an interesting rumor early today that the Brewers are going to make a surprise pick with their first selection. The player is none other than Kodi Medeiros, the first name I mentioned might be on the Brewers radar.
Perfect Game USA was holding a draft chat earlier where Todd Gold said he thought, outside of Touki Toussaint, Medeiros possesses the highest ceiling of high school arms. He did acknowledge that his floor is as a reliever. It seems like a high upside/high risk pick. If they do pick him, I wonder if it's because they can sign him underslot and get better prospects later.
Just to reiterate, it's anyone's guess who the Brewers will actually select.
The draft starts at 6 pm CT, but there is pre-draft coverage starting at 5 pm CT. It will all be televised on MLB Network or on MLB.com. Today the draft will cover the first two rounds, including the Competitive Balance B round. The Brewers will make 3 picks today coming in at 12, 41, and 50 overall.
