Exchange of words at end of Brewers and Cardinals game due to misunderstanding: VIDEO

The Brewers and Cardinals had an exchange of words following Friday night's game. It appears that it was due more to a misunderstanding than any actual wrongdoing.

At the end of the Brewers victory over the Cardinals last night, there was an exchange of words between the two teams during Milwaukee's postgame celebration. It seems that small fracas was due more to a misunderstanding than any actual wrongdoing between either side.

With two runners on base and two outs in the top of the ninth, Brewers closer Francisco Rodriguez got A.J. Pierzynski to fly out to left field to preserve a 6-2 lead and end the game. As Pierzynski ran by Rodriguez and catcher Jonathan Lucroy while they high-fived, Rodriguez seemed to take offense to something.

After, Rodriguez talked to Cardinals first base coach Chris Maloney about what had happened, prompting St. Louis catcher Yadier Molina to come over as well. All in all, everything looked very calm between the two sides with no real hot heads. Rather, just a discussion of what just took place.

Both managers told reporters after the game that the incident was due to a misunderstanding. Brewers manager Ron Roenicke:

"That was just something that we thought happened and I don’t think it happened. It was no big deal."

And Cardinals manager Mike Matheny

"Apparently when A.J. was jogging off he brushed against Rodriguez and he didn't like it. There was nothing said. Nothing. He didn't think he touched him, but he got closer than what they wanted. So he just turned around and asked our first base coach Chris Maloney what was that was all about. Nobody even knew what was going on."

Pierzynski himself was reasonable about the whole thing after as well:

"I think it’s inner-division, pennant race. Guys are on edge. Guys are playing hard and they’re looking for anything to get a boost from. That’s all teams in September, especially in a close race. That’s baseball. That’s what’s fun."

So well we as Brewers fans may not like the Cardinals, and Cardinals fans may not like the Brewers, all in all there is pretty much nothing to add to the fire here. I will say that Pierzynski still has a punchable face though.
