Carlos Gomez is officially back in action for the Brewers after missing most of the past week due to a sprained wrist. Following a successful pinch-hitting opportunity in the Brewers Sunday loss to the Cardinals, Gomez is once again starting and patrolling center field for Milwaukee.

Hopefully the time off has done Gomez some good. He had hit just .238/.319/.448 in August before his injury which, while not bad, is not enough for the Brewers, who need a hot bat if they wish to stay in playoff contention. A healthy and focused Gomez can be the exactly the cure for what ails this team. But he'll need to break out of his slump and show some more patience at the plate for that.

Speaking of slumping Brewers outfielders, Ryan Braun is now batting fifth as Ron Roenicke dropped him in the batting order. Though his injured thumb has been hurting his performance all year, Braun has been especially bad lately with a .242/.289/.392 line since the start of August. Moving back in the order will help mitigate his ineffectiveness a bit.

Yovani Gallardo is starting for the Brewers tonight. His first strikeout will put him in first place all time for strikeouts as a Brewer, breaking Ben Sheets' record. The two are currently tied with 1,206 apiece.
