Around Baseball
- Blue Jays reliever Brett Cecil is done for the postseason with a torn calf muscle. RHP Ryan Tepera has been added to the roster to replace Cecil.
- The Cubs designated pitcher Tsuyoshi Wada for assignment and added Taylor Teagarden to the 40-man roster.
- The Mariners have fired manager Lloyd McClendon, as new GM Jerry Dipoto has elected to bring in his own manager rather than stick with the manager in place.
- In game two of the NLDS between the Mets and Dodgers, second baseman Chase Utley slid hard towards second base and shortstop Ruben Tejada broke his leg in the collision. Tejada is out for the rest of the postseason, and Utley received a two-game suspension for his slide. Utley is appealing the suspension but a resolution is not expected for at least a few days.
- The new pace of play rules won't be seen much in the postseason. Commissioner Rob Manfred has said that while pace of play is important, it's not appropriate to enforce it in the postseason.
- The qualifying offer for upcoming free agents has been set for the offseason. Teams will have to offer free agents at least a one-year deal with a minimum value of $15.8 million to get draft pick compensation.
