Win: Mike Fiers (1-3)
Loss: Jake Arrieta (3-2)
Two important things: Ryan Braun hit another home run and Mike Fiers was really good. Like, really good. Fiers only lasted six innings, but that's because he threw plenty of pitches while striking out 12 Cubs hitters while allowing just three hits and two walks. It's the kind of start we've seen Fiers make often, but that we've had yet to see in 2015 up to this point. The only run that scored against him came off an Anthony Rizzo solo homer.
Six innings and twelve strikeouts though. That means 67% of his outs were strikeouts. That's fantastic, and the best start a Brewers pitcher has had this season.
Meanwhile, Ryan Braun gave the Brewers their first runs of the game with his fifth home run of the season, a two-run shot in the first inning. That's his fourth home run in his last four games which...is he back? Can he be back? Pretty please can Ryan Braun be Ryan Braun again?
The Brewers got another two runs in the second on RBI singles by a returning Carlos Gomez and Jean Segura. Segura went 4-5 today, with two RBI and a run scored.
All in all, a good game for the Brewers. They'll play another against the Cubs Sunday afternoon.
